2012 Feb 7: Thailand Day 3

Today we hired a taxi and took a day trip to Ayuthaya.  Ayuthaya is about 100km north of Bangkok.  It was the capital of Siam for 417 years from 1350 to 1767 when it was sacked and destroyed by the Burmese.  It has been designated as a World Heritage site and has several interesting temple ruins.

Here are some pictures:

And the elephants:

After returning from Ayuthaya, we went to a river park next to the Grand Palace and watched the sunset.  Across the river is the Wat Arun temple complex, the former home of the Emerald Buddha.

Here are some pictures:

We then went to the Patpong Night Market, but because it adjoins the sex district there were no pictures.  Judy wasn't impressed by the market and I wasn't impressed either.

All and all, another good day in Thailand.
